Middle Hitter Sara Lind places a shot between two Hurricane blockers during Mabel-Canton’s match-up with Houston last Tuesday night.
The Cougars only played once last week, defeating Houston on Tuesday, Sept. 3, in straight sets 25-19, 25-11, 25-10.

The match was in Mabel, and constituted Mabel-Canton Coach Lonnie Morken's 500th volleyball victory. (See related article on the front page of this issue.)

The Hurricanes managed to cut an early first set six-point lead to 15-13 before the Cougars put a little distance between themselves and their guests. Houston outside hitter Abby Loken got five of her eight kills in the opening frame, which could easily have gone either way.

"Overall we had a strong match serving and we were very balanced on offense," Morken noted. "Sara Lind is a much improved player this year and we are really excited at her progress in only her third year of playing volleyball."

Lydia Geving finished with 11 kills, three service aces and five digs.

Belle Sand recorded four kills, two assists, five aces and 13 digs.

Lind put away nine kills and stuffed three ace blocks.

Christine Lee had eight digs and an ace.

Coranda Vickerman had seven assists and three kills, as well as five digs.

Carly McCabe had five kills, two service aces, six digs and set 27 assists.
