Mabel-Canton traveled to Fillmore Central for a Tuesday, May 6, softball game, then hosted Grand Meadow/LeRoy-Ostrander/Kingsland (GMLOK) on Friday. Saturday brought a trip to the Hayfield tourney.

Falcon pitcher Morgan Malley recorded 16 of the 21 outs with strikeouts last Tuesday. The elite hurler was just one out away from a no hitter when Cougar outfielder Hannah Underbakke singled in the seventh.

The other three Cougars to reach base did so with FC/L errors, each in a different inning.

Seven FC/L batters had one hit each including doubles from Kaitlynn Aug and Megan Hendrickson. In this neighborhood non-conference match-up, FC/L improved to 7-2 while the Cougars left at 2-2.

Seven runs in both the first and third frames, plus a 10-run fourth inning put the visitors in the driver's seat on Friday, as GMLOK scored a total of 27 runs while holding M-C to four.

The Hayfield Vikings defeated M-C 11-0 in the opening round of their tournament on Saturday. Winning pitcher Alyssa Monahan held the Cougars to three hits in the shutout, striking out three.

Lead-off hitter Coranda Vickerman went one-for-two for the Cougars (first inning), while Ashlyn Dahl (1-2) got the only other M-C hit in the second.

The first four Vikings who stepped to the plate scored.

Jessie Foster (2-2) scored three runs, posted two runs batted in (RBIs), and stole two bases for the hosts. Rachel Masching also stole two bags, and collected 3 RBIs.

Versus New York at Mills Hayfield Tourney

The Cougars took on New York Mills next, losing 19-2. Chelcie Busch, Hannah Nolte, Sarah Lind and Kourtney Coyle all had hits for M-C. Coyle recorded an RBI. The only other base runners for the Cougars came from a hit batter and one walk.

Versus Houston at Hayfield Tourney, game 3

A sixth-inning rally in Mabel-Canton's third game of the tournament against Houston fell short for the Cougars, who scored four runs due to back-to-back doubles from Vickerman and Dahl, but the Cougars lost 8-6. Busch also doubled for M-C.

The M-C girls are now 2-6 overall and 1-1 in SEC play. They will host Lyle/Pacelli on Tuesday, and make up Monday's rain-out (at Houston) on Friday, May 16. The seeding for sub-section action takes place on Saturday, May 17, with the tourney starting on Monday, May 19.
