The 2013 All-Southeast Conference softball team has been released. With three seniors, three juniors, and two sophomores, the squad highlights the top players in league games. Five out of the eight first-team players are repeat honorees.

For the Cougars, two juniors made the squad. Lydia Geving checked in at catcher, while Abby Hanson played shortstop. It was the third all-conference appearance for Geving, and the second for Hanson. Third-baseman Hannah Nolte (a sophomore), also earned Honorable Mention.

Geving was team co-leader in both runs batted in (7) and hits (12). She batted .293, and made 51 put outs and 14 assists. Hanson led the team in six categories, batting .353, scoring 19 runs, recording four extra-base hits (2 doubles, 2 triples), got on the base path 15 times with walks, made 44 assists, and had 12 hits.

Houston placed four ballplayers on the list, with senior shortstop Vanessa Lee making a third appearance, and junior pitcher Abbey Loken a second. Teammates Kasey Jumbeck (a senior outfielder), and Alexa Horihan (a sophomore third baseman) also made the list.

Glenville-Emmons placed senior catcher Jamie Williamson on the list for a second time. She was joined his time around by sophomore hurler Madi Ziebel, who was honorable mention in 2012.

Geving and Hanson were also named co-MVPs (Most Valuable Player) in team voting.

Junior pitcher Sara Lind was named Most Improved Player. She led the team with 54.1 innings pitched.

The Hustle Award went to junior centerfielder Kourtney Coyle. It was the third year she's won that honor.

The Team Player Award went to senior pitcher Kristina Mengis, who led the team with a 5.3 earned run average on defense and a .375 batting average, also a team-high.

Mengis, Morgan Roppe, Lind, Coyle, Hanson, Geving, Nolte, Danielle Graves, Courtney Graves, and Coranda Vickerman were all named Academic All-Conference. In order to earn that honor, a player must earn a varsity letter while maintaining a 3.4 (A-) GPA.

Mengis was also earned All-State Academic honors. That senior-only award requires maintaining a GPA of 3.75 through all four years of high school.
