Houston junior Abbey Loken tossed a 2-hitter getting 11 of the 15 outs with strike outs

Loken also batted 2 for 2 while driving in 3 runs.

Walks were critical as Houston needed only 4 hits to score 10 runs

The Hurricanes led 4-0 before adding 6 scores without an out in the bottom of the fifth to seal the 10-run-rule victory

Abby Hanson had both of the Cougar hits including a double in the fourth. There were no other M-C base runners as Houston committed no errors and Loken issued no free passes

Abby Hanson led off the Cougar sixth with a triple and scored on a ground out for what would be the winning run. An RBI-double by Hannah Nolte had given M-C a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but the Glenville-Emmons Wolverines tied it with an unearned run in the fifth.

G-E (3-6, 1-2 SEC) had one more hit (4) than did M-C (3), but the Wolverines left 10 runners on base. The game ended with the bases loaded with Wolverines.

Sara Lind picked up the pitching win while G-E sophomore Madi Ziebell absorbed the loss despite striking out 9 and walking none.

This non-conference contest left the teams with a 2-2 split for the season including a 1-1 split in their two SEC games.

M-C scored twice to tie the game at 2-2 in the fourth inning with an RBI-triple from Lydia Geving. Houston broke the tie with 7 runs in the sixth. The Cougars added 2 more runs with a walk followed by back-to-back hits from Geving and Hannah Nolte in the bottom of the frame, but couldn't catch the Hurricanes, losing 10-4.

Winning pitcher Abbey Loken allowed only 3 hits and struck out 14 while walking only 3.

Loken also paced the offense, batting 2 for 4 with 2 triples while driving in 4 runs. Hurricane sophomore Lizzy Tippery hit 2 for 3.

The 'Canes second win over M-C clinched the conference championship for Houston (10-3, 3-0 SEC). The Cougars closed the regular season at 4-10 (1-3 SEC)

As this issue went to press, Mabel-Canton entered sub-section play on Monday night seeded No. 8. They played the No. 1 seed (Chatfield), losing 10-0. Details will be in next week's News-Record.
