Ten boys' cross-country programs and an equal number of ladies' teams gathered at the elementary school in Eyota on Tuesday, Sept. 10, for the Dover-Eyota Invitational.
Lanesboro/Fillmore Central (L/FC) coach Ellen Cullen reported hot weather when the bus left Lanesboro, but clouds rolled in and cooled things off as the teams reached their destination.
"We had a couple of sprinkles during the meet," she noted. "The kids running at the time said it felt great!"
Cullen also said that five L/FC runners did not compete for a variety of reasons, ranging from injury and illness to a scheduling conflict.
Home field honors went to Adam Rahn of the hosting Eagles, who won the boys' varsity 5K in 16:41. The winning team in that race was Plainview-Elgin-Millville.
Lanesboro/Fillmore Central took eighth place in the event, including team scores from Travis Troendle (17th), Nathan Eversole (39th), Michael Harrison (44th), Ben Gjere (60th), and Casey Olson (65th). Matthew Kiehne and William Nolan also competed for L/FC.
In the boys' junior varsity 5K, Layton Howerton of L/FC was 21st and Jared Reinhardt 23rd.
The junior high 3200M had Aaron Eversole taking 10th and Joey Lange finishing in 39th place.
For the ladies, Dover-Eyota won the varsity 4K in team scoring. The winner of the race was McKenzie Kirtz of Grand Meadow/LeRoy-Ostrander/Southland (16:19).
L/FC had four runners in the event. Kiera Olson took fourth place with a time of 16:30. Leah Ruen was 14th, followed by Heather Boyum (38th) and Cami Jones (66th).
There were no L/FC runners in the JV race.
The junior high 3200M featured L/FC runners Jaime Rein in 10th and Emily Snyder in 11th place.
L/FC competed at the Lake City Invitational at Camp Hok-se-la on Tuesday, Sept. 17. (See next week's newspaper for the complete report.) The following Tuesday, they will head for the Root River Country Club in Spring Valley for the Kingsland Invitational.
