Falcons get no. 5 seed; travel to R-P Thursday

The Fillmore Central/Lanesboro baseball team finished up the 2013 regular season last week with losses to St. Charles (8-4), Plainview-Elgin-Millville (10-7) and Dover-Eyota (3-0).
The Falcons finished the regular season with an overall record of 2-11 and now will travel to Rushford-Peterson (3-12) on Thursday for the first round of the 1A East sub-section tournament. The guys were 2-8 in the Three Rivers Conference.
Here are some of the highlights from last week's games.
Against St. Charles, Clayton Dierson led the team with a pair of hits and an RBI. Also getting hits were Niko Anderson, Cal Larson, Nick Powell and Garrett Boggs. Anderson and Clay Olson also had RBI. Josh Jones pitched the entire game, giving up 10 hits, 8 runs (6 earned), no walks, while striking out six. Falcon runs were scored by Larson, Olson, Boggs and Devon Block.
Against Plainview-Elgin-Millville, Nick Ebner and Cal Larson led the offense with three and two hits, respectively. Ebner also knocked in a pair of runs. Also recording hits were Andy Love, Dan Gatzke, Boggs and Josh Jones. FCL scored four runs in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to three runs. Nick Ebner was the pitcher of record for the Falcons. He gave up 10 runs (9 earned), 15 hits, one walk and struck out three.
In the game against Dover-Eyota, Niko Anderson broke up the DE no-hitter in the sixth inning with a single. Garrett Boggs was the only other baserunner for FCL. He walked in the third inning and was stranded on second after a stolen base. Jake Tammel pitched the first 2-1/3 innings and was relieved by Josh Jones (3-2/3). Tammel only gave up four hits, but walked five. Jones gave up two hits, no runs, walked one and struck out four.
The sub-section game at Rushford on Thursday is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start.
