FC/L and K-W are undefeated in section play. Chatfield and Hayfield, with one loss each, were also matched up in the first elimination game at Todd Park, Austin, this past Tuesday after this edition went to press. A second elimination game was also scheduled for Tuesday.
The tournament concludes on Thursday, May 29. The winner of the Section 1A tournament advances to the state tournament, scheduled for Thursday and Friday, June 5 and 6, in North Mankato.
A walk-off RBI single by Kaitlynn Aug in the bottom of the seventh inning, gave the Fillmore Central/Lanesboro Falcons a 2-1 win over Wabasha-Kellogg. Tayah Barnes, who singled, scored the winning run on Aug's hit.
Barnes and Aug also teamed-up for a go-ahead run, 1-0, in the fifth inning. Barnes singled to lead off the FC/L fifth inning, and then scored on Aug's RBI double. Both Barnes and Aug finished the game going two for three at the plate. Barnes scored both of the Falcon runs and Aug had both of the runs-batted-in.
Also getting hits in the game for FC/L were Taylor Sprenger (single, first inning) and Megan Hendrickson (single, fourth inning).
Morgan Malley was on the mound for the entire seven inning game. She gave up one run (earned) and scattered nine hits in the win. Malley came up with eight strikeouts, hit one W-K batter and walked none.
Wabasha-Kellogg got runners to third base six times in the championship game, but could only muster one run. Great defense and great pitching by FC/L!
Wabasha-Kellogg committed three errors in the game, two of which put FC/L runners in scoring position. Great heads-up running by the southern Falcons.
A great relay from Sprenger (right fielder) to Aug (first base), to Shelby Ebner (catcher), cut down a potential run for W-K in the fifth inning.
"What a game!" said coach Tris Tollefson. "I am very proud of all our girls who keep coming up with the big plays throughout our playoff run. We are getting different girls, each game, coming up with game-changing plays and hits. It has been fun!"

Falcons avenge loss
The Fillmore Central/Lanesboro softball team downed Lewiston-Altura, 2-0, in the semi-finals of the east sub-section tournament. The win avenged a 2013 first-round loss to the Cardinals that knocked FC/L out of the tournament and ended the No. 2 seeded Falcons' season.
Barnes' one-out double put the Falcons on the board in the second inning, knocking in Gabby Brazee, who led off the inning with a single. Brazee moved into scoring postion on Ebner's sacrifice bunt. FC/L's other run was a third inning leadoff home run by Malley. The Falcons only got three hits in the game.
Malley was on the mound for the Falcons. She allowed only two hits and gave up just one walk. Malley struck out seven in the pitchers' duel.
