Fillmore Central female athletes continue to shine as the local golf team heads off to the state meet next week.

Earlier this school year, the girls were state runner-up in volleyball, along with the Three Rivers Conference, sub-section, and section championships that preceded the state accolades while another group of girls of Fillmore Central/Lanesboro won the sub-section championship and finished third at section in the recently completed softball season.

The latest award of section champion has been added to conference championship and sub-section championship, along with every varsity team member making the all-conference team from the South Division.

At the Section 1A meet last week, Fillmore Central recorded a score of 379, out-distancing second place Wabasha-Kellogg (403), by 24 strokes. Blooming Prairie finished third.

The Lady Falcons top four all finished in the top 10 of the section: Katie Tammel (93, tied for fifth), Keely Todd (95, tied for eighth), Madison Scheevel (95, tied for eighth) and Grace Miller (96, 10th). Also playing for the varsity, and earning a trip to the state meet at Becker, Minn., next week, were Laura Dooney (110) and Elayna Kiehne (111).

Elizabeth Hennessy of L-A was meet medalist, carding an 82. That was one stroke better than Kaitlin Kling of Grand Meadow/LeRoy-Ostrander. Kingsland's Karli Bly (87), Courtney Sill of WK (90), and Blooming Prairie's Taylor Christianson (93) also advanced to state as individuals.

The Fillmore Central team is coached by Lane Powell and assisted by Aaron Mensink. The state meet will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 10 and 11, at the Pebble Creek Golf Club, Becker, Minn. The team will have a practice round on Monday, but many of the players are planning additional rounds over the weekend.
