Junior Olivia Haug took fourth place in the discus throw last week at the Minnesota Class A State Track and Field Championships, winning an all-state medal.

As the lone competitor from Lanesboro/Fillmore Central/Mabel-Canton, Haug was making her second appearance at state. She took 11th place in discus last year.

Haug tossed the steel 117 feet, 9 inches during the June 6-7 finals at Hamline University in St. Paul. There were 16 state qualifiers. The top nine finishers win a medal - and achieve all-state.

Senior Katelyn Weber of St. Claire won the day at 126-01, followed by Alayna Theissen of Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial-Nicollet (125-10), and Maddie Lindhart on Zumbrota-Mazeppa (118-03).

The throw was among Haug's best. As a freshman, she broke the hundred-foot mark on May 8, 2012, with a fling of 104-07. She did even better during 2013, winning the event five times with just one second place. Haug's best discus throw that year came on May 7, 2013, at 117-02.

In 2014, Haug broke that PR at an April 25 meet in La Crescent, then bested her mark once again while winning the section finals with a 120 foot, 3 inch effort.
