This past Monday night the Central Falcons Legion baseball team traveled to Wabasha for the first round of the district tournament, and came out on the short end of an 11-1 score.

It was a well-played game, in spite of the locals being 10-runned in the contest. Central scored one run on four hits and left six runners on base. Falcon pitching gave up nine walks and hit one batter. Of those 10 “freebies,” seven scored! The Falcon defense did not commit any errors in the shortened ballgame.

Sam Peters led the offense with a pair of singles, one in the second inning and the other in the fifth inning. Kiel Larson and Sam Rustad had the other hits for Fillmore Central/Lanesboro. Trace Tollefson reached on an error in the second inning and scored on Cole Schwichtenberg’s ground-out.

Gatlin Woellert started the game on the mound, and pitched the first four innings. He gave up six runs, all earned, three hits and eight walks, while striking out three. Collin Scott pitched one-third of an inning and allowed five runs, all earned, on four hits, walked one and hit one batter.

In the double-elimination tournament, the Falcons will now face Lake City, losers to No. 2 seeded La Crescent. The game will be played in Preston, Wednesday night, beginning at 6 p.m.
