The Cougars' baseball team finally had a chance to open the baseball season on April 20, losing both games of a doubleheader at Onalaska Luther.

Both contests went to OL by an identical 10-0 margin. M-C has had the unenviable position of waiting to begin the season while the first five dates were postponed. Their opponents (2-1) came in with one play date under their belts.

The 10-run rule ended the first game in the sixth, while the second was called in the bottom of the fifth.

With no seniors on the squad, the young Cougars belted seven hits in the opener and six in the nightcap, but didn't manage to score a run. On five occasions, M-C strung together hits in an inning without cashing in. The visitors received little charity as the Knights committed no errors and six Luther pitchers combined to strike out 15 and walk only 2.

For the day, M-C sophomore outfielder Keyser Wenthold batted 3 for 5, stole 2 bases and made a retreating catch deep in left field. In his first baseball game, junior outfielder/pitcher Hunter Johnson hit 3 for 6 with a stolen base. Colin O'Bieglo, Noah Manning and Wesley Richert each had two hits and Jon Selness one.

Four different Cougar pitchers combined to strike out three and walk nine. The Knights scored in the first inning of both games and finished with 23 hits including 8 doubles.

The big blow was a three-run home run by Aaron Schaper to make it 8-0 in the first game. Mitch Beckendorf batted 5 for 6 with two doubles, and Nolan Arentz went 3 for 4. It was the 11th straight win for Luther in a series they lead 21 to 4.
