On Friday, Jan. 3, the Cougars traveled to Hope Lutheran, scoring a 47-43 win.

M-C coach Adam Wilder said the Patriots played a tough, disciplined game. The score was tied 23-all at the half. Mabel-Canton managed to take the lead for good by knocking down their free-throw opportunities down the stretch, he reported. The Cougars totaled 38 percent (3 of 8) from beyond the arc, 30 percent (14 of 46) from two-point range, and 10 for 23 (43 percent) at the line.

Wilder cited junior forward Hannah Nolte as putting in a key performance. Nolte grabbed 11 of the Cougars' 33 rebounds. She also scored four points.

Lydia Geving, Sara Lind and Carly McCabe scored 11 points apiece. Coranda Vickerman hit for eight.

Lind completed the double double, totaling 10 rebounds, three steals and an assist. Geving had seven boards, three steals and three assists. McCabe had two steals and two rebounds. Vickerman lifted five steals from the Pats, and passed for two assists. Abby Hanson dished three assists with no turnovers. She also snagged a rebound and scored two points.

Dakota Ellinghuysen scored 18 points for the Patriots. Jenna O'Laughlin hit for 14 (including three treys).
