Mabel-Canton opened the softball season on April 21, hosting the Houston Hurricanes. It was the third game of the year for the visitors, who defeated M-C in a 10-run-rule-shortened, six-inning contest, 22-2.

Senior hurler Abbey Loken, arguably the best pitcher in the Southeast Conference, limited the Cougars to three hits while striking out 14 batters. She also went two for three at the plate, smashing a triple, collecting two RBIs and scoring three runs.

M-C had two difficult innings, but played good defense otherwise. The Hurricanes have been a powerhouse in SEC softball circles.

Senior pitcher Sara Lind went the distance for the Cougars. Chelsea Busch went two for three at the plate.
