Fillmore Central Band Director Lane Powell has congratulated his entire band on its fantastic performances last week at the small group contest in Rushford. A total of 18 events received superior ratings and one event earned an excellent rating.
"That is 78 students involved in superior groups, earning 123 superior medals," he explained.
Powell also noted, this year, the Fillmore Central band program had 11 students audition for the all-state band and orchestra. This rigorous audition took place on Saturday, March 16, at Century High School in Rochester. Other auditions occurred throughout the state in March. Making the all-state music groups is the HIGHEST honor a high school musician can receive. Only current 10th and 11th grade students may audition.
Being selected for this honor from Fillmore Central this year are Nick Powell, symphonic band percussion. Nick is a two-year all-stater and is the son of Lane and Jessica Powell of Harmony.
Also selected in her first year is Morgan Malley, all-state orchestra percussion. Morgan is the daughter of Travis and Melissa Malley of Harmony.
These students will attend a week-long camp in August, as well as a two-day camp and performance at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis in February.
