Twenty-four students from the Fillmore Central eighth grade agriculture class competed in the Regional FFA Middle School Ag Challenge on Thursday, Nov. 15, held at Plainview-Elgin-Millville.

The contest consisted of identifying several items from many different branches of agriculture. These items included the categories of types of cheeses, various cuts of meat, floriculture, nursery and landscape, companion animals, livestock species, forestry and wildlife species.

The purpose of the contest was to give young agriculture students and FFA members a sampling of what the larger official FFA competitions are about and also to make them more aware of how much agriculture is a part of their daily lives.

Out of over 220 student contestants from eight different schools, Fillmore Central had eight students in the top 20 who will be receiving individual awards. Top 10 finishers included Samuel Peters in eighth place, Katelin Mensink in seventh place, Kenzie Broadwater in fifth place, Michael Harrison in third place, Helen Delano in second place and Casey Olson taking first place!

As a class, all 24 students placed in the top 50 percent of the 220 competitors.
