Runners from Lanesboro's boys' and girls' teams competed at the Section 1A Cross-Country Championships on Oct. 25. The courses were 4000M for girls and 5000M for boys, and the scene of the action was Northern Hills Golf Course in Rochester.

Twenty-two programs were represented. Junior Emi Trost of Cannon Falls led 130 runners across the finish line in 15:26, three seconds ahead of Kayla Woltz of Chatfield. Third place was taken by Ahna Buntrock of Dover-Eyota. Last week's coaches' polling ranked Trost #2 in the state in Class A, while Woltz was ranked #7.

Burro Kirsten Ruen, a senior, took 97th with a time of 19:31. Classmate Johanna Bearson finished in 19:55, while junior Heather Boyum crossed the line in 21:20.

Lanesboro didn't have enough runners on either squad to compete for a team score, so the Burros had to settle for an "incomplete." There were a total of three girls' and four boys' programs in the same boat.

For the girls, D-E took first in team competition, followed by Rochester Lourdes. La Crescent finished third.

In the boys' run, junior Ian Torchia of Lourdes won the race in 16:39. Fourteen seconds later, Pat Reinschmidt of Plainview-Elgin-Millville crossed the line, followed by Cotter's Matt Schrupp. Torchia was ranked #9 in the statewide coaches' poll, followed by Reinschmidt at #10. Team results had Cotter in first, P-E-M second and Lourdes third. There were 136 runners overall.

Lanesboro senior Erik Peterson took 24th place with a time of 18:20. Sophomore Travis Troendle was 51st, finishing in 19:12. Freshman Nathan Eversole finished in 19:47, while sophomore Matthew Kiehne posted a time of 21:53.
