"It was a perfect day for running. Sunny, yet cool," Lanesboro cross-country coach Ellen Cullen said of last week's meet. Held at Hok-si-la Community Park, the Lake City Invitational includes a fairly flat course near the shores of Lake Pepin.

This years' Hok-si-la race was held on Sept. 18. Ethan Wagner of Minnehaha Academy won the boys' varsity 5k run in a time of 15:54, leading 70 other high schoolers across the line. In the girls' varsity 4k, Madison Overby of Austin High won in 15:03. There were 66 runners in that race.

The Redhawks of Minnehaha won both the boys' and girls' team competitions. Seven Burros competed as individuals, since Lanesboro does not have enough runners to post a team score.

Taking 52nd place, Heather Boyum completed her varsity race in 18:40. She was followed by teammates Kirsten Ruen (19:04) and Johanna Bearson (20:11).

In the boys' varsity, Burro Nate Eversole took 56th place, finishing in 19:44. Matt Kiehne crossed the line in 19:44. Travis Troendle did not run, as he was attending an FFA competition.

In the junior high mixed 3200-meter run, Ben Gjere finished 24th among the boys, crossing the line in 13:47.00. He was followed immediately by Aaron Eversole, who finished in 13:47.40. Teammate Dakota Ahmetasevic did not run, since he was nursing a quad injury.

The Burros were scheduled to travel to the Root River Country Club to compete in the Kingsland Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 25. On Oct. 2, the Burros travel to Chosen Valley Golf Course to compete in the Chatfield Invitational. The PEM Invitational will be held on Oct. 9, at Piper Hills Golf Course in Plainview.
