On Thursday, Sept. 6, the Lanesboro cross-country teams sampled a different venue, running in the "Crazy Buffalo" Invitational at Pine Creek Golf Course near La Crescent. The field enjoyed pleasant conditions, with temperatures in the mid-70s, a light breeze, and moderate humidity.

Eleven schools participated in the meet. Team honors went to the Dover-Eyota girls and the boys from Winona Cotter. Individual top times were recorded by Ahna Buntrock of D-E and Cotter's Matt Schrupp.

"This was the first time we competed at this meet," LHS coach Ellen Cullen said. "It was a pretty neat course. There was one steep hill about 40 meters long that the kids had to run up a couple of times - junior high and varsity girls ran it twice and the varsity boys ran it three times."

Senior Johanna Bearson turned in a time of 23:02 in the 4,000-meter race, while junior Heather Boyum came in at 19:11. Senior Kirsten Ruen did not complete due to achilles trouble, Cullen reported. Boyum's time placed her 30th in the field of 78.

For the boys, 90 runners competed at 4,800-meter run. Sophomore Travis Troendle came in 24th, with a time of 19:33. Freshman Nate Eversole was only five places behind, with a time of 19:47. Sophomore Matthew Kiehne finished in 22:58.

The Burros also entered three lads in the junior high boys' race, which was laid out at 2,600 meters. Eighth-grader Ben Gjere took 15th with a time of 11:32. Seventh-grader Aaron Eversole finished in 16th place, only one second behind Gjere. Dakota Ahmetasevic, also from grade 7, broke into junior high cross-country with a time of 13:34.
