The Fillmore Central girls basketball team lost to Spring Grove, 69-30, in the sub-section quarterfinals last week, ending their season at 7-20.

The Lions (No. 2) downed Rushford-Peterson (No. 1) last Saturday in the 1A East Championship game, 65-62, in overtime. Spring Grove will play Bethlehem Academy Thursday night for the Section 1A championship. Fillmore Central did beat Houston, 82-72, earlier, in a play-in game, finishing 1-1 in tournament play this year.

Morgan Malley led the team in scoring with seven. Five players had four points each in the contest: Larissa Armstrong, Jordan O'Connor, Kenzie Broadwater, Sammi Bakke and Kaitlynn Aug. Leah Scheevel contributed three points. Scheevel led the team with six steals.

Leading rebounders were Malley (8), Bakke (8), O'Connor (5) and Scheevel (5). The Lady Falcons had 25 turnovers in the loss.

"Always tough to end the season," said head coach Sarah Tollefsrud. "Our girls gave it their all, but Spring Grove just took it to us in the second half. I thought our girls looked pretty good in the first half, but our shots just not fall, and I think by the end of the first half our confidence started to go." Jordan O'Connor, Fillmore Central's only senior, had a great high school career. This is a very young team and should show dramatic improvement next year. Monday night the team will have its season-ending awards night.
