Falcons get fifth seed; travel to Mabel-Canton Thursday

The Fillmore Central/Lanesboro baseball team finished the regular season with a 3-12 record and received the No. 5 seed in the upcoming 1A-East sub-section baseball tournament. The Falcons will take on Mabel-Canton (6-5) in Mabel Thursday.
In the Falcons' most recent games, they lost to Dover-Eyota this past Monday, 4-3, lost to St. Charles last Saturday, 11-5, and lost to Lyle/Pacelli last Friday, 6-5. Last Thursday the team split a pair of games with Rushford-Peterson, losing the opener 9-8 and winning the nightcap 7-1. In a stretch of seven days, the team played six games.

The Falcons had seven hits in the five inning win over the Trojans. Leading the way with two each were Kiel Larson and Nick Mensink. Solo hits were recorded for Nick Powell, Andy Love and Collin Bennett. Knocking in the runs were Garrett Boggs, Mensink and Bennett (2). Scoring the runs were Larson (2) and one each for Powell, Clay Olson, Love, Josh Jones and Cole Schwichtenberg.
Nick Mensink got the win, going the entire five innings. He allowed seven hits, one run (earned), struck out two and walked three.
In the 7-1 loss to No. 1 seeded Southland, Andy Love (2) and Nick Mensink had the only hits for the locals. Gatlin Woellert had the only RBI.
Kirby O'Connor pitched five-and-two-thirds innings, giving up eight hits, seven runs (six earned) and four walks. O'Connor struck out six Rebel batters. Sam Peters pitched the one-and-one-third innings, allowing only one hit and striking out two.

Youth was on the mound in the game against Lyle/Pacelli. Going the first four innings was freshman Collin Scott, who was relieved by another frosh, Sam Peters. Peters delivered the last three innings for the Falcons, allowing just one hit, two runs (none earned), while striking out three and walking two. Scott allowed four runs, five hits, one walk, and struck out one.
Recording hits for the Falcons were Garrett Boggs (triple), Kiel Larson, Nick Powell, Clay Olson, Nick Mensink, and Collin Bennett (2). Boggs' triple in the fourth inning knocked in two runs in the four run rally. Larson and Bennett also had RBIs.
