The Fillmore Central/Lanesboro softball team picked up a pair of wins this past week over Mabel-Canton (4-0) and Plainview-Elgin-Millville (9-2), improving its overall record to 8-2. The Lady Falcons are 4-2 in Three Rivers Conference play.

In the win over Mabel-Canton, the gals picked up nine hits, two each for Steph Erickson and Megan Hendrickson, and solo dingers for Morgan Malley, Tayah Barnes, Kaitlynn Aug, Maggie Haugstad and Kayla Leiding. Haugstad (2), Malley and Taylor Sprenger scored the runs, with RBIs contributed by Malley and Hendrickson.

On the mound, Malley pitched the entire game, giving up just three hits and striking out 16. Malley didn't allow any walks in the shutout win over the Cougars.

Fillmore Central/Lanesboro committed two errors on defense and left 10 runners on base.

"We struggled offensively," said coach Tris Tollefson. "Defensively, we played well. Steph Erickson just missed a home run, hitting the fence on the fly."

The Falcons scored seven runs in the fifth inning against Plainview-Elgin-Millville, en route to the seven run win.

"We played well and hit the ball hard, especially in our big inning,"said assistant coach Travis Malley. In that seven-run fifth, FC/L had six hits, along with one Bulldog error. The Lady Falcons had a total of 11 hits against PEM, two each for Morgan Malley, Steph Erickson and Kaitlynn Aug. Coming up with one hit each were Tayah Barnes, Taylor Sprenger, Megan Hendrickson, Gabby Brazee and Haley Polin. Brazee's hit was a double and one of Malley's two hits was a two-bagger.

Malley pitched the win, giving up six hits, two runs (both earned) and two walks, while striking out 10.

The Falcons had eight runs-batted-in against PEM, two each for Erickson, Brazee and Aug and solo RBIs for Malley and Sprenger.

Tuesday the girls hosted Southland for a double-header, Friday they travel to Chatfield for two and finish the regular season with a single home game against St. Charles on Saturday (11 a.m.). The sub-section tournament starts next week.
