The Fillmore Central volleyball team defeated Kingsland, 2-0, in the third place match at the Byron Tournament last Saturday.

Overall, the team went 4-1 in the tournament, losing only to Chatfield (0-2: 17-25, 21-25) during pool play. In the other pool play matches, the Lady Falcons defeated Goodhue (2-0: 25-21, 25-7), Kenyon-Wanamingo (2-0: 25-19, 25-23) and Pine Island (2-0: 25-15, 25-9). Chatfield won the tournament, downing Byron, 2-0, in the championship match.

In dual meets, the Falcons split matches last week, losing to No. 1 rated Wabasha-Kellogg (0-3: 21-25, 18-25, 14-25), and downing Kingsland (3-0: 25-21, 25-11, 25-13) in a non-conference match.

In the loss to the "northern" Falcons, Taylor Case led the team with 14 kills and a hitting efficiency of .342. She also had 14 digs, went 7/7 at the service line, and was 9/9 in serve receive. Leah Scheevel added 10 kills and three ace blocks.

Chelsea Rislove was perfect at the service line (10/10) and in SR (25/25). She also had a team high 19 digs in the three set loss. Morgan Malley led the team with 34 set assists and added eight digs. Sammi Bakke was a perfect 9/9 at the service line. Tor Peterson had eight kills. As a team, the Falcons had 123 attacks against Wabasha-Kellogg.

In the dual meet win over the Knights, Taylor Case had 12 kills, Sammi Bakke had six and Tor Peterson and Kaitlynn Aug added five spikes each. Sophomore setter Morgan Malley had four kills in 15 attacks. Sammi Bakke (12/12), Morgan Malley (7/7) and Danielle Zinsmaster (2/2) were all perfect at the service line. Chelsea Rislove led the team with three ace serves. Serve receive (SR) leaders were Case (13/13), Rislove (9/9) and Sara Schultz (9/10). Morgan Malley set up the hitters with 22 set assists.

Tuesday night the Falcons hosted Chatfield in a non-conference match-up. The two teams are 1-1 this season; Fillmore Central won the TRC match, while the Gophers won the match in the Byron Tournament. Thursday night the gals will travel to St. Charles for a TRC match.
