Fillmore Central boys end regular
season with home games this week

After a Monday, Feb. 4, win over Houston, the Fillmore Central boys basketball team has lost four in a row, including a loss to Lewiston-Altura, 47-42, this past Monday night. The other three losses have come to Southland (76-46), Rushford-Peterson (77-51) and Caledonia (56-40).

The Falcons played pretty well against L-A, in spite of falling behind by 17 at the 5:30 mark in the second half. Fillmore Central closed out the game with a 14-2 run, but couldn't get any closer than five, the final margin at the end of the game.
Dan Gatzke led the team with 16 points. The Falcons hit just one for seven at the free throw line and committed 20 turnovers in the game. Twelve of the turnovers came in the first half. Brandon Breitsprecher hit a three-pointer at the end of the first half, cutting the Cardinal lead to four, 21-17, at the intermission. Andrew Coyle had six points off the bench.

Jake Tammel had 20 against Caledonia, half of Fillmore Central's total, 15 of them coming in the first half. Tammel hit seven of his 11 field goal attempts (3/5 3's) and was three for three at the charity stripe. He also had a team-high six rebounds. Quentin Case didn't score any points, but dished out six assists. Point guard Logan Masters was two for two at the line and delivered four assists to his teammates. Case and Masters each had five rebounds in the loss to the Warriors.

Dan Gatzke had a double-double, 14 rebounds/10 points, in the loss to R-P. Nick Powell (15) and Quentin Case (10) were also in double-figure scoring. Logan Masters dished out six assists. Michael Walsh came off the bench and hit a pair of bombs, finishing the night with six points.
The Falcons were credited with 25 turnovers in the game against the Trojans, and only attempted three free throws, converting on two of them.

Here's the individual scoring for the Southland game: Carter Rindels 2, Masters 2, Tammel 3, Breitsprecher 3, Ole Dalsbo 2, Gatzke 20, Powell 12, Ascher Ostrom 2. Three's, 7: Tammel, Breitsprecher, Gatzke (3), Powell (2). Nick Powell also had 12 rebounds for a double-double against the Rebels.
The Falcons finish up the regular season this week with a pair of home games: Tuesday night against Plainview-Elgin-Millville and Friday with St. Charles.
The Fillmore Central B squad got a win Monday night against Lewiston-Altura, and posts a record of 14-9 so far this season.
