The Section 1A Golf Tournament was held on May 27 at Rochester's Eastwood Golf Course. Lanesboro sent three boys and two girls, all of who competed as individuals.

For the boys, Lewiston-Altura turned in a team total of 340, advancing to the state tournament by defeating Rushford-Peterson by four strokes. Third place went to Hayfield, while Blooming Prairie finished fourth.

Fillmore Central's Jordan Miller was the meet medalist, firing a 75. He was also one of five players who advanced as individuals. Those included Victor Peterson (80) and Tom Braaten (83) of Blooming Prairie, along with Hudson Stensgard (82) and Charlie Krambeer (83) of RP.

Lanesboro's Liam Dorn finished in a three-way tie for 11th place (86). Teammate Johnathan Bierman also shot an 86. Tristan Chiglo came in at 101.

For the ladies, Fillmore Central won the team competition, and will advance to state. Wabasha-Kellogg was the runner up, while Blooming Prairie finished third.

Elizabeth Hennessy of L-A was meet medalist, carding an 82. That was one stroke better than Kaitlin Kling of Grand Meadow/LeRoy-Ostrander. Kingsland's Karli Bly (87), Courtney Sill of WK (90), and Blooming Prairie's Taylor Christianson (93) also advanced to state as individuals.

For Lanesboro, Hope Knepper took 23rd with a score of 116. Alexis Jorgenson fired a 122.

The Class A state tournament will be held June 10 and 11 at Pebble Creek Golf Club.

LHS coach John Smith reports that Dorn has been named Most Valuable Player for the 2014 squad, with Chiglo earning the Most Improved Player award. For the ladies, Knepper was named MVP, while Jorgenson is the team's MIP.
