Two on, one out, score is tied at 2-2...that's when Tori Peterson came through with a clutch hit in the bottom of the sixth inning, giving the Fillmore Central/Lanesboro softball team a 4-2 lead against the Plainview-Elgin-Millville Bulldogs. The two-run double proved to be the winning hit for the Lady Falcons and the 4-2 margin held up for a 2013 season opening win.

On the mound, Morgan Malley had a solid performance, allowing just four hits, two runs (one earned), walking three, and striking out 13. "Morgan Malley really pitched well," said coach Tris Tollefson. "She was real tough when she had to be." That included a strikeout to end the game, after walking the No. 9 batter in the Bulldog line-up.

Not only was Morgan superb on the mound, but was equal to the task at the plate. Malley scored two runs in the game and came through with an inside-the-park home run in the third inning.

Malley's battery-mate, Shelby Ebner, also received high praise from the coach. "Shelby Ebner did a great job catching," Tollefson stated. "This was her first varsity start and she threw out two base runners which got us out of a jam in the middle of the game." Those two throw-outs came in the fifth inning when PEM led off with a pair of singles. So, instead of having two on with no outs, thanks to Ebner, it was no on, with two outs.

Freshman Taylor Sprenger also made her varsity debut, knocking the cover off the ball, and a three-for-three performance at the plate. She drove in a run in the bottom of the fifth inning, tying the game at 2-2. No arrests were made to the "under-age" Sprenger, but she did receive accolades from her teammates and the coach.

Seniors Jordan O'Connor and Chelsea Rislove also made their presence known in the Falcon line-up. O'Connor singled and walked in her three appearances at the plate, while Rislove got on base two of her three plate appearances, including being hit-by-a-pitch and scoring in the sixth inning on Peterson's double. Junior third baseman Taylor Case had a lead-off walk in the second inning and scored the team's fourth run in the sixth.

Rislove returns to the diamond this year after sitting out her junior year. Welcome back, Chelsea!
