Fillmore Central had a balanced scoring attack last Thursday against Lewiston-Altura to down the Cardinals 73-54 to end the regular season.

Four players were in double-figures, led by Nick Powell's 16. Getting 10 points each were Jordan Miller, Quentin Case and Carter Rindels. Logan Masters netted nine, while Collin Bennett and Nick Mensink tallied eight each. Ascher Ostrom had a bucket for two points.

Powell and Case recorded double-doubles with 14 and 10 rebounds, respectively. Masters, Miller and Case were the assist leaders, each with three. Larceny (steal) leaders were Masters and Miller, swiping four each.

"It was a complete team win," said coach Aaron Mensink. The Falcons finished the regular season with an 11-15 record, 6-14 in the Three Rivers Conference.

Tonight (Thursday), the No. 3 seeded Falcons will host No. 6 Mabel-Canton (14-11) in the first round of the playoffs. Fillmore Central had a one point win, 57-56, over the Cougars back on Jan. 18.

Historical look at the FC/M-C match-ups over the past few years: Fillmore Central has a 10-game winning streak over Mabel-Canton, dating back to the 2007-08 season, regular season and playoffs. The last Mabel-Canton win came during the 2006-07 season. The last win for the Cougars in tournament play was 2005-06. That year the Falcons beat Mabel-Canton by 20 (59-39) during the regular season, only to have the Cougars turn the tables, 78-70, in sub-section play.

The winner of tonight's game will play Tuesday, Feb. 25, 7:30 p.m., at Mayo Civic Auditorium. The Falcons are in the same bracket as No. 2 seed Spring Grove, which will face the winner of No. 7 Wabasha-Kellogg vs. Hope Lutheran, scheduled to play Tuesday night. The Section 1A East title game is Saturday, March 1, at 11 a.m. Rushford-Peterson is the top seed in the tourney.
