R.E. "Gene" Richardson, 89, of Harmony, died Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at his home in Harmony.

He was born Oct. 3, 1924, in Harmony Township of Fillmore County to Carl and Hazel (Turnmire) Richardson.

He graduated from Canton High School in 1943.

He married Deloris Ellingson on Nov. 18, 1947, in Harmony.

Early in his life he was a carpenter working with his dad and brother. He was a Harmony businessman starting with Standard Oil delivering bulk gas to farmers and gas stations. In 1967 he expanded that business to include Gene's Farm Center which he operated until he retired.

He and his wife enjoyed traveling and visiting family. She preceded him in death in 1989. In June of 1990 he married Lorna Janski. During their 16 years together they traveled between Harmony and Pharr, Texas, enjoying time with family and friends. She preceded him in death in 2007.

He enjoyed woodworking with a scroll saw and sharing his crafts with family and friends.

Gene is survived by four children, Becky (Brad) LeDuc of Port Washington, Wis., Bonnie (Mark) Seem of Omaha, Neb., Bradley (Robin Christian) Richardson of Elk River and Brent (Julie) Richardson of Stewartville; nine grandchildren, Nathan, Andrew, Maria, Matthew, Jacob, Jamie, Christopher, Michael and Daniel; two great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Brady; three brothers, Russell Richardson of Canton, Gaylon Richardson of Canton, Merlin "Mike" (Bonnie) Richardson of Eden Prairie; his wife, Lorna's children, Larry (Barb) Janski of Buffalo, (Ann) Janski of Leavenworth, Wash., and a special friend, Vera Lange, of Chatfield.

He was preceded in death by both wives, Deloris and Lorna; a grandson, Josh; a daughter-in-law, Kari and two siblings, Marquerite Runkel and Carrol Richardson.

Memorial services were held Saturday, March 15, at Greenfield Lutheran Church in Harmony. Inurnment will be in Greenfield Cemetery at a later date.

The Lindstrom Funeral Home is assisting the family.
