You are invited to share the seasons with the belles.

"The theme of this year's Sharing the Seasons is 'You are Invited'," said St. Mary's Catholic Church Belle Teresa Stokes. "And we have 20 tables set every year. The people who set them choose what their table settings will look like. Some are very simple, some are very fancy. Each table setter interprets how they'd like to set a table to show 'You are Invited'."

The Belles of St. Mary's are inviting the community to see those tables set with lovely china and glassware, "dishes that were somehow inherited from aunts or grandmas." The tables also showcase items gathered through the years by Chatfield, Preston, Fountain and St. Charles community members. Many have volunteered to share a peek at their heirlooms with the public during the annual Sharing the Seasons fundraiser, this Sunday, Oct. 27.

The event has, in the past, featured dishes of various themes, including sports, Christmas, Thanksgiving, fishing, flowers, snowmen, country and cabin, military and veteran, coming home and so much more.

Proceeds from the gala have gone toward mission work and church projects the Belles have undertaken and this year's will likely benefit the much-needed renovation of the church's vintage kitchen into a newer, more work-friendly space.

Stokes explained, "I think it's going toward the church kitchen remodel that was just completed and I think we have six new table setters this year. It's a way for people to come and show off their dishes and it's also a way to show off the remodeled kitchen besides that."

Stokes acknowledged the Belles' annual gala is now a tradition for more people than just the St. Mary's congregation. "It's a very open, community-wide setting. We have people bringing dishes from Preston, Fountain and St. Charles this year, and I think that more of the people who set tables are from other churches and from the community than there are tables set by people from St. Mary's," she said. "As people come and see the tables, they think, 'I have dishes I'd like use to set a table,' so we have them register on Sunday, then we contact them for the following year."

She added the fundraiser is also a social event. "I see a lot of the same people year after year, and they seem to like coming to Sharing the Seasons. The community does support it well."

Sharing the Seasons will be held this Sunday, Oct. 27, from noon to 2:30 p.m. in Maddock Hall at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Admission is $5 per person. Lunch is available as part of admission and door prizes will be given.
