"It's that time of year again," said Fillmore County Commissioner Chuck Amunrud, addressing a gathering of Fillmore County employees at the courthouse last Tuesday.

"The board wishes to thank all of you for your service and dedication," he continued as the county recognized its employees and the commissioners expended their appreciation for their years of service. "We have great employees and staff - you're important to us and your communities. The job you do is not always easy...sometimes you're the person who has to listen as someone complains about their mailbox being hit by another snowplow and sometimes you're the person who gets to see people who don't want to see you, but we appreciate everything you do."
Amunrud first presented an award to LuAnn Hoff, who has worked for Fillmore County for 40 years - first as a court administrator for 22 years, and the rest of those years in the sheriff's department.
Sheriff Daryl Jensen marked 35 years of service to the county. Amunrud noted that Jensen was unable to attend due to being at a conference elsewhere, but voiced the county's appreciation for his dedication. Jensen has expressed his intentions to retire later this year.
Robert Engen of the highway department and Cindy Mensink, an attorney and coordinator, have each given 30 years of service.
Amunrud commended Social Services employees Kari Cahill and Barbara Zoelle-Johnson for their 25 years assisting county residents, and thanked highway department employee Troy Sukalski, who has lent his past quarter century to the county.
Those marking two decades include Public Health worker Evelyn Clark, deputy Brian Miner and highway employees Al Polzin and Pamela Schroeder.
Marking 15 years of service to the county were Heather Barth of veterans' services, Fillmore County Auditor and Treasurer Shirl Boelter, deputies and sheriff's office employees John DeGeorge, David Dyke, Jesse Grabau, Edward Hallisy and Jason Harmening, highway employees Brent Kohn and Neil Woellert, and Public Health employee Lesa Tienter.
Information systems worker Jeffrey Cooper, highway department employee James Crawford, Social Services employee Jessica Kraus and zoning office employee Cristal Adkins were recognized for 10 years of working for Fillmore County.
Finally, the commissioners presented certificates to county surveyor Jeffrey Brand, Assistant Fillmore County Attorney Lee Novotny, highway department employee Kenneth Rislov, sheriff's office employee Linda Smith and Public Health worker Katherine Thiss for five years of service.
Before dismissing the gathered people for a cake and punch reception in the hall outside the board meeting room, Amunrud reiterated, "Thanks so much for what you do. You are valuable to us."
