Anita Bue of Lanesboro feels the most fun part of being a vendor at the farmers market is meeting all the wonderful people. She said the most challenging is keeping things stocked, and also the time factor. She's been doing this for four years. In addition to garden produce, she spends all day on Friday baking so she can offer fresh homemade baked treats every week.

There are always good reasons to drop in and shop at the Lanesboro Farmers Market. But Saturday, Sept. 29, will be an especially great day to make the stop.

On that day, the annual Customer Appreciation Day will be combined with the 10th anniversary celebration for the market. Vendors will be offering samples and special sales on produce. Fall vegetables are in early this year, so it is a chance to get started on canning and freezing. Also on that day will be the annual drawing for a produce basket, contents of which are donated by the vendors.

The Commonweal Theatre in Lanesboro has been offering free coffee each week to mark its newest production, "The Drawer Boy," described as "a heartwarming drama about farming and friendship." Each donation at the market of food (perishable or non-perishable) or cash will earn a coupon for $5 off theater tickets to "The Drawer Boy." The money collected from donations goes to the Fillmore County Semcac Food Shelf. On Saturday, there will also be free slices of a 10th anniversary celebration cake to go along with the free coffee.

While the market is no longer open on Wednesdays, the Saturday morning hours of 9 a.m. to noon will continue through Oct. 27.

According to market manager Jerilyn Eddy, vendor space is still available; information and an application form can be found at the market's website. That website is accessed by going to www.lanesboro-mn.gov and then click on Farmers Market.
