Leather and Pipes, a motorcycle run that raises funds for the Eagles Cancer Telethon, made a stop in Lanesboro on Saturday, Aug. 17.

This annual event was started in 2008 in memory of Mike Bell from Oronoco who died in July of 2007 from lung cancer. Mike Fogarty, a good friend of Bell's, and Greg Johnson, Bell's brother-in-law, started the event and continue to organize it every year. Mike Bell was married to Carolyn Borgen, originally from Lanesboro.

This year, over 200 individuals participated, driving motorcycles, classic cars, convertibles and vans.

Each year, the ride starts from Pine Island and makes a run in different areas every year. This year, the second stop was in Lanesboro and the Lanesboro Fire Department welcomed the riders and served "to-die-for" burgers, beans, chips and all the trimmings. Beverages were also available.

The Lanesboro Fire Department also made a donation to the cause. Last year, $14,000 was raised and donated to the cancer telethon in January. This year, the fundraising exceeded $18,000.
