Harry Root and Fred Scheevel will face off in the November general election for Fillmore County commissioner from District 3.
The two had the most votes in Tuesday’s primary election. Four candidates were seeking the seat vacated by Chuck Amunrud of Spring Valley.
Root, a Spring Valley native who operates a family beef farm and works as an independent dairy and beef nutritionist, had the most votes with 144, or 37.8 percent of the vote. Scheevel, a life-long York Township resident who is employed at CHS in Ostrander and has been York Township clerk for 34 years, had 110 votes for 28.9 percent.
Roger Sanford was third with 87 votes, or 22.8 percent, and Mark Gusa had 40 votes, or 10.5 percent of the vote.
Root and Scheevel will be on the ballot for the Nov. 4 election this fall. The contest was the only local office in the primary election.
