The cast of Ye Olde Opera House’s ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ invite everyone to this weekend’s performances.

A giant, a boy, an opera singing cow, a sassy hen, clouds and stars will all share the stage during the Ye Olde Opera House's children's performance of "Jack and the Beanstalk."

The children have been practicing weekdays since July 15. "The best part about directing are the kids," remarked director Jill Bjerke.

"I cannot believe how outgoing and brave they are. They are so talented and hard working. Most of them had their lines memorized in less than two weeks!

"We have a lot of fun together, and after a long day of practice, we just laugh and laugh, and they can hardly get their lines out! I am so proud of them, their hard work and willingness to do anything that is asked of them."

"Jack and the Beanstalk" is the familiar children's story with perhaps a few embellishments!

"It was really difficult to choose a play. I knew I wanted to do a fairy tale type story, but still wanted it to be appealing to boys," explained Bjerke.

"I noticed there have been many movies out lately about Jack and the Beanstalk, so I searched the title. When I read the description of the play I thought it looked like a lot of fun. I mean an opera-singing cow! That sounded like a lot of fun. I was also excited to build the set, painting is a passion of mine, and I thought this world would be fun to bring to life."

The cast of "Jack and the Beanstalk" include: Isaac Griffin as Jack, Lauren Wyffels as Jack's Mother, Brody Christiansen as Stranger/Jack's Father, Corbin Moser as Albert the Giant, Sadie Albrecht as Albert's Mother, Alyssa Johnson as Cow, Kailee Olerud as Hen, and Brianna Johnson as Butterfly.

The Narrators are Rhiannon Skauge, Sadie Morken, Sydnie Kampschroer, Kelsey Bratland, Maggie Lile, Sophie Morken and Brianna Johnson.

Other roles include:

The Clouds are Caleb Griffin, Jaxon Strinmoen, Lawrence Skauge, Jonah Udstuen and Josh Newgaard.

The Stars are Erika Donlan, Ella Wennes, Makesha Powell, Ava Olerud, Paige Jahnke and Katelyn Kraus.

The Voices are Kaitlyn Vickerman and Kyleigh Doering.

The Hens are Maggie Lile, Kelsey Bratland and Sophie Morken.

The Townspeople are Erika Donlan, Ella Wennes, Makesha Powell, Ava Olerud, Paige Jahnke, Katelyn Kraus, Kaitlyn Vickerman, Kyleigh Doering, Jaxon Strinmoen, Lawrence Skauge, Jonah Udstuen and Josh Newgaard.

"This is my first time directing a play," added Bjerke. "Since I have never even been in a play, I have looked to my stage manager, Kaitlin Bratland, for help. She has been amazing! She has experience, and has been there for every practice. I really could not have done it without her help. Most of the kids have been in many plays before so that really made things fun and easy."

Other participants that make the production possible include producer, Jen Solberg; lighting by Nathan and Scott Solberg; and set design by Bjerke, Lee Hoekstra, Scott Solberg and Kaitlin Bratland.

"I would like to give special thanks to my husband, Nick, cast members for painting and helping with costumes, family members for bringing treats, helping with makeup, costumes, and getting kids to rehearsals, and Ye Olde Opera House members for making this show possible. We look forward to a fun weekend of performances!"

The performances are at Ye Olde Opera House on Main Street on Aug. 9 and 10 at 7:30 p.m. and a matinee on Sunday, Aug. 11, at 2:30 p.m.

Tickets are $5 for all seats and are available by calling 498-JULY (5859). Some tickets may also be available at the door.

Concessions will be available before and after the performance and will include popcorn, desserts and maybe even magic beans just like Jack's!

"I am so lucky to be a part of such a wonderful community and to have had this opportunity to make my theatre debut! They have all worked hard, and I am extremely proud of each one of them."

"I think everyone will really enjoy the performance, it has a great message and lots of laughs. We look forward to seeing you there," added Bjerke with a smile.
