Festival of Trees just around the corner

The holiday season is quickly approaching. That means that is also time for the wonderful annual Christmas tradition, Festival of Trees. This event raises money for Houston County Food Shelf and Houston County Care and Share, and other charities. It is a special project of the Spring Grove Commercial Club. In the last eight years, it has raised more than $75,000.
One lucky person will win this Amish-made quilt during the Festival of Trees. Tickets for a chance to win the quilt are $1 each or six for $5. The quilt is currently on display at Merchants Bank in Spring Grove.
This year's theme is "Christmas with Dr. Seuss." Volunteers are already working hard at transforming the Fest Building into the magical world of Dr. Seuss. This is a big project that takes many hours to complete and volunteers are always welcome. Even if someone can only donate an hour or two of their time, it is very much appreciated by the committee! They will be working at the Fest Building Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. They are also there most week nights beginning about 6 p.m.
This year there will not only be a visit from the big man in red, Santa, and his lovely wife, Mrs. Claus, but also a special appearance by one of Dr. Seuss' famous characters, The Grinch! The event is one that will surely entertain young and old alike!
Festival of Trees opens the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, Nov. 29 with open viewing. There will also be children's activities and those special visitors. Saturday also has open viewing and the big event - the Holiday Gala and Auction. The event wraps up Sunday with a delicious brunch.
Auction items are being accepted now. A form can be filled out online and the items can be dropped off at the Fest Building. Each year many wonderful and unique items are donated to the auction. The generosity of many people donating and purchasing those items is what makes the Festival of Trees a success each year.
Another fundraiser that the Festival of Trees is having is a quilt drawing. The quilt is a Dutch Star pattern hand-made by the Amish and machine-quilted. It is 104" x 117" and is on display at Merchants Bank in Spring Grove. Chances are $1 each or six for $5.
