Spring Grove's Music-in-the-Park (MITP) has been extended through the entire month of August with a generous donation from the Spring Grove Economic Development Authority (EDA).

This week is a community picnic hosted by area churches beginning at 6 p.m. in Viking Memorial Park. All residents of Spring Grove and the surrounding area are welcome. In case of rain, the potluck will be held in Trinity's Fellowship Hall.

Music starts again with the Joe Cody Band on Wednesday, Aug. 14, with food to be served by Spring Grove Commercial Club.

Other upcoming musical acts include Simple Rogues on Aug. 21 and Mike McAbee on Aug. 28. Watch for updates on the Commercial Club's Facebook page at CommercialClub.

Music-In-The-Park takes place in the gazebo in Viking Memorial Park. Each week, the event will try to be held at the park if the weather and the construction noise cooperate. The back-up location is the Fest Building.

As always, food begins at 6 p.m., and the music commences at 6:30 p.m. finishing by 8 p.m. There are many benches and picnic tables, but attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets.

Detour Dollars winners

The Detour Dollars will continue to be drawn each Wednesday before MITP at approximately 6:30 p.m. In September, the drawings will move to the Fest Building, where "kubb" practice will take place each Wednesday evening in anticipation of the kubb tournament during UffDa Fest on Oct. 5.

Register through Aug. 7 at Merchants Bank in Spring Grove, Scott Bingham/Thrivent Financial at the Yah Sure, You Betcha Shoppe and Pathfinder CRM.

Beginning on Thursday morning, Aug. 8, the new registration locations will be Giants of the Earth Heritage Center, Spring Grove Battery, Ivy Grove Cafe and Otterness Auto Center.

Participants need not be present to win, but they'll win more if they are! You must be present to win the top $144 weekly top prize; if not present, $44 will be forfeited and winner will be notified of the $100 prize.
