The 2013 Honorees and Royalty were announced May 11 during the Blast-Off Banquet at the Fest Building. And with that, the Syttende Mai celebration is officially underway!

This year's banquet featured the presentation of flags by members of Legion Post 249 and a performance by the Spring Grove High School Choir, singing "The Star Spangled Banner", "Ja, Vi Elsker Dette Landet", "Per Spelmann" and "Gabi, Gabi"

Master of Ceremonies was Rachel and David Storlie and special guest was Roar Moe of Litle Færøy, Solund Kommune, Norway.

As always, clues for this year's honorees were read until the person was revealed. The Honorees are: Mest Hoyaktet Dam, Kari Rud; Business Person of the Year, Dean Ellingson; King of the Trolls, Roger Lunde; and Honorary Norwegian Dianne Romie.

New this year was a special skit featuring Josh Olerud, Spencer Dunn and Caleb Happel known as the "Troll Queens".

Finally, the highlight of the event was the crowing of the 2013 Syttende Mai Court. This year's royalty are: Queen Kendra Prahl, 1st Attendant Kaitlin Bratland and 2nd Attendant Laura Johnson. And for the younger court: Little Miss Ava Olerud, Little Miss 1st Attendant Brianna Johnson and Little Miss 2nd Attendant Tiffany Michels.

This year's judges were Theresa Fegyak, Harvey Goetting and Jennifer Oefstendahl.

Parade marshal set

Congratulations to Pastor Zane Anderson this year's parade marshal for the 2013 Syttende Mai Grand Parade at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 18.

Souvenir features Red's IGA

Red's Hometown Market/IGA has been chosen as the souvenir for the 2013 Syttende Mai Celebration.

"I thought it was pretty nice," Pat "Red" Longmire, storeowner, said. "The souvenir looks nice."

Souvenirs are available for $14 at Spring Grove Communications through Friday, May 17. Any remaining souvenirs will be for sale at the Syttende Mai Hus during the celebration.

The souvenir was designed, cutout and rosemaled by Peter and Berthana Wirth, who have been making the collectible items for the committee for many years.

Congratulations to Pat "Red" and Deb Longmire and their staff for being selected as this year's business to be featured on the collectible souvenir.
