REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING: DECEMBER 17, 2012

The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Independent School District #297 was held at 5:30 p.m. Monday, December 17, 2012, in the Media Center.

Board members present: Aaron Solum, Shannon Schuttemeier, Kristy Folz, Eric Bjerke, Michelle Borreson and Christian Myrah

Board members absent: None

School employees present: Rachel Udstuen, Nancy Gulbranson, Tanya Elton

Motion by Shannon Schuttemeier, seconded by Kristy Folz and carried unanimously to approve the minutes of the Regular School Board Meeting held on Monday, November 19, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. in the Media Center.

Motion by Shannon Schuttemeier, seconded by Kristy Folz and carried unanimously to approve the bills for December as follows:



General Fund (1) $ 66,155.61

Motion by Eric Bjerke, seconded by Christian Myrah and carried unanimously to approve the agenda as presented.

FISCAL

Motion by Shannon Schuttemeier, seconded by Michelle Borreson and carried unanimously to accept the 2011-2012 Financial Audit presented by Kimberley Hillberg of CliftonLarsonAllen.

Motion by Michelle Borreson, seconded by Christian Myrah and carried unanimously to approve the 2012 Payable 2013 Levy Limitation and Certification in the amount of $555,888.

Motion by Shannon Schuttemeier, seconded by Christian Myrah and carried unanimously to accept the gift in the amount of $31,885.19 from the Betty B. Bretz Estate (formerly Bessie Quinnell). At the request of Mrs. Bretz, the money is to be used for Spring Grove High School extra-curricular activities.

PERSONNEL

Motion by Michelle Borreson, seconded by Eric Bjerke and carried unanimously to hire Tory Kale-Schultz as the Assistant Varsity/Junior Varsity Softball Coach for the 2013 Season.

PROGRAM

Mrs. Andrea Brownlee presented the Music Trip to Florida and is asking for consideration for moving the trip to June 2014 instead of June 2015 because of the scheduled ELCA Trip (Trinity Church Youth) in July 2015. The Board made no decision on the request.

Guidance Counselor Scott Solberg presented the School Board with an update on the work being done regarding bullying education and prevention.

BUILDING/GROUNDS/EQUIPMENT

Motion by Shannon Schuttemeier, seconded by Eric Bjerke and carried unanimously to approve the purchase of panel, corner and column mats for the main and practice gyms in the amount of $9,598. The quote for the bleacher enclosure was not approved by the board.

Motion by Shannon Schuttemeier, seconded by Christian Myrah and carried unanimously to approve the Xerox leases for the main office and second floor machines. The new leases will replace the current with newer machines, with more features, including network scanning, staples and a lower per copy cost and will save the district approximately $7.70 per month (combined).

GENERAL

Motion by Michelle Borreson, seconded by Christian Myrah and carried unanimously to approve the Second Reading of Policy 704: Development and Maintenance of an Inventory of Fixed Assets and a Fixed Asset Accounting System.

Motion by Shannon Schuttemeier, seconded by Kristy Folz and carried unanimously to also honor Evonne Morken with the American Education Week Citizens Recognition Award.

Motion by Shannon Schuttemeier, seconded by Eric Bjerke and carried unanimously to approve the Open Enrollment Requests from Landon Wachter (EC) from the Caledonia School District and Jacob Rogich (grade 10) from the Mabel-Canton School District.

Motion by Michelle Borreson, seconded by Shannon Schuttemeier and carried unanimously to hold the January School Board Meeting on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. in the Media Center. (The 3rd Monday is Martin Luther King Day - no meetings)
