Audrey Mae Petersen, 80, of Hokah, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at her home.

She was born Dec. 1, 1931, in Caledonia, the daughter of George and Anna (Klinski) Middendorf. She married Fred Petersen in 1954.

Audrey dedicated 60 years of her life to serving the Houston County community, working in several different positions at the Houston County Courthouse. The last 25 years of her career, she served as county treasurer. Audrey truly enjoyed her job and the community she served. She didn't retire until recently at age 79.

Survivors include her husband, Fred; her six children, Elaine Mehdizadeh of Savage, Minn., Wayne (Kelly) Petersen of Spring Grove, David (Diane) Petersen of Hokah, Sharon (Fred) Schmelzer of Holmen, Wis., Shirley (Dan) Levendoski of La Crosse, Wis., and Nancy (David) Beier of Hokah; 13 grandchildren, Bruce (Kristina) Mehdizadeh, Ben, Karleigh, Cody and Lydia Petersen, Deana, Darcy, and Dedra Petersen, Ericka and Heidi Schmelzer, and Derek, Nathaniel, and Aiden Beier; and two great-grandchildren, Behruz and Leila Mehdizadeh.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Robert and Fred Jr.; a brother, Lamoine "Butch" Middendorf; and a son-in-law, Reza Mehdizadeh.

Funeral services were held Sept. 28 at the Brownsville Community Center. Rev. Mark Solyst officiated. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery, Hokah.
