Charles Albee, 93, of Caledonia

Charles P. Albee, 93, of Caledonia died Saturday, March 10, 2012, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse, Wis.
He was born Aug. 11, 1918, in Caledonia to C. Benjamin and Bertha (Nelson) Albee. Charles was a 1936 graduate of Caledonia High School.
On Sept. 7, 1939, he married Mildred Wiegrefe at St. Luke's United Church of Christ, Eitzen, and they shared 70 years of marriage until Mildred preceded Charles in death on March 19, 2010.
He farmed southwest of Caledonia for most of his life. Charles was an active member of the Caledonia United Methodist Church. He served on the Caledonia Hospital Board, the Evergreen Cemetery board and the District 39 School Board for many years.
Charles was the superintendent for open class exhibits for crops and furniture at the Houston County Fair. He was the dairy project leader and custodian for the Caledonia Rockets 4-H Club.
After his retirement, Charles began woodworking at the request of his friends and family and he enjoyed teaching his grandchildren all about the craft.
Survivors include his four daughters, Joanne Rice, Caledonia; Kathy (Bob) Bubbers, Rock Falls, Ill.; Gail (Eric) Nelson, Caledonia, and Janet (Wayne) Beyer, Lewiston; 11 grandchildren, Linae Rice, Corene (Craig) Dunbar, Bob (Denise) Bubbers, Jr., Jeff (Tracy) Bubbers, E.J. (Tammy) Nelson, Jessica Nelson, Jennifer (Mark) Nutt, Wade (Kayla) Beyer, Anne (Jon) Boehmke, and Brian and Brady Beyer; 15 great-grandchildren and three on the way; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Marion (Sidney) Myhre; two sisters-in-law, Eva Albee and Gwen Wiegrefe; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife, Charles was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Alfred Albee; a son-in-law, Nick Rice; and three brothers-in-law, Marvin (June) Wiegrefe, Harold Wiegrefe and Paul Wiegrefe.
Funeral services were held March 14 at the Caledonia United Methodist Church. The Rev. Mark Bengtson officiated. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery.
