Dean A. Bulman, 83, of Eitzen, Minn., a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who had a will to live, died peacefully in his home surrounded by family, love, laughter, and tears, Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013.

He was born Dec. 29, 1929, to Alton and Helga (Sadler) Bulman near Dorchester, Iowa. He attended school at English Bench and graduated from Waukon High School in 1947. Following graduation, he entered the United States Air Force. He married Grace Meiners June 17, 1951. While stationed in England, their sons, David and Larry, were born. After being discharged, Dean worked in the Eitzen area as an electrician. Grace and Dean then moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where Dean was employed as an electrician at Quaker Oats. While living in Cedar Rapids, Debra and Gregg were born. In 1961, the family returned to rural Eitzen. Dean enjoyed both the farm and his electrical business. Dean was a member of the VFW Houston County Post 3833 and the Loveless-Eikens American Legion Post 191, both of Caledonia, the Eitzen Lions, and St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Eitzen, where he served on several committees. Dean enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and especially enjoyed making projects with his grandchildren.

He will be missed by his wife of 62 years, Grace; his children, David (Connie) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and their children, Heather (Chad) Sopousek, Seth (friend, Brittney), and Kelsey; Larry (Kathy) of La Crescent, Minn., and their children, Aaron (Stacey), Amber (fiancé, Kirk), and Brandon; Deb (Brad) Harguth of Eitzen, Minn., and their children, Jessica (Felix) Malpica, Karli, and Lucas; and Gregg (Diane) of Dorchester, Iowa, and their children, Kevin, (fianceé, Megan), Katie (Malichi) Nelson, Brandon (friend, Alissa), Brooke (friend, Zach), Justin, Nick, and Joey; his great-grandchildren, Carson and Morgan Grace Bulman, and Cooper Nelson; sister, Lois Wiedenmann of Waukon, Iowa; brothers, Delbert (Eloise) of Dorchester, Iowa, Loren (Margaret) of Spring Grove and Robert, (Marilyn) of Waukon, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Berdell (Beverly) Meiners and Donald (LaVonna) Meiners, both of Caledonia, and Dale (Joann) Meiners of Eitzen, Minn., and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws, Elmer and Flora Meiners, Neal Wiedenmann, Dean and Sandy Meiners, and Shirley Bulman; and nephews, Ricardo and Randall Bulman.

Memorial services were Friday, Oct. 25, at St. Luke's United Church of Christ, Eitzen, Minn. The Rev. Felix Malpica officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery with military honors by the VFW Houston County Post 3833 and the American Legion Post 191, both of Caledonia, and the United States Air Force Funeral Honor Guard. The family strongly and respectfully requests memorials in lieu of flowers. Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory, (Caledonia Chapel), is in charge of arrangements.
