Dr. J. Ross Hiner, 59, of Northfield died Friday, June 28, 2013, after a yearlong battle with brain cancer.

He was born Sept. 5, 1953, and raised in Kenyon. He graduated from Kenyon High School in 1971 and Concordia College in Moorhead in 1975 where he met his wife, Nancy. He and Nancy married Aug. 13, 1977.

In 1979, he graduated from the University of Minnesota Dental School. The couple moved to Lonsdale, Minn., where he opened up his own dental office and spent 34 years providing dental care.

Survivors include his loving wife, Nancy Hiner (Wilson) of Northfield; a son, John (Emily) of Farmington; a granddaughter, Audrey; a daughter, Krista of Minneapolis; a brother, Kirk (Carol) of Kenyon; sisters, Rae Ann Swanson (Don) of Monticello and Beth Baribeau (Robb) of New Prague; parents, Dr. James and Jean (Jetson) Hiner of Kenyon; parents-in-law Thomas and Prudence Wilson of Elk River; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral was held at Trondhjem Lutheran Church in Lonsdale on July 3.

The Bierman Funeral Home in Northfield assisted the family with arrangements.
