Leland Edwin Morken, 91, of Spring Grove died Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Gundersen Health Systems in La Crosse, Wis.

He was born June 9, 1922, in Spring Grove to Gerhard and Siri (Solum) Morken. He was a Spring Grove High School graduate. On June 9, 1946, he married Beverly Ann Olson at Garness Church in Mabel. The couple lived on the family farm in Wilmington Township, rural Spring Grove until moving to town in 1957. 

Lee was a lifelong member of Wilmington Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and was a Sunday school teacher. He was a very active member of Ye Olde Opera House where you could find him doing everything from building sets to performing on stage. 

Lee worked for Spring Grove Builders and became a part owner. He later worked for Standard Lumber in Caledonia. Lee was a man of tremendous faith who enjoyed the simple things in life. He cherished spending time with family and his many friends.

Syttende Mai was very special to him.  Lee was so proud to be chosen king of the trolls. He enjoyed showing off his car whether driving in the parades or cruising down the road.

Survivors include his three daughters, Candy (Bob) Oefstedahl of Spring Grove, Cindy (Dan) Groth of Winona and Cheri (Mark) Wolfe of Wentworth, S.D.;  eight grandchildren, Jason (Jen) Oefstedahl, Ryan (Jenna) Oefstedahl, Erin (Tony) Konkel, Jamie (Liz) Groth, Nick (Delia) Groth, Eric (Kris) Wolfe, Chet (Kim) Crowley and Jesse (Melissa) Wolfe and nine great-grandchildren Siri, Ezra, Shay, Landon, Gabrielle, Nikki, Braden, Skyler and Ethan. 

In addition to his parents and his wife Beverly, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Genora, Gilma, Stella, Minnie and his brothers, Sam and Oliver.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday March 5, at 10:30 a.m. at Wilmington Lutheran Church in rural Spring Grove. The Rev. Neal Solomonson will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to Wilmington Lutheran Church.
