Liela Virginia Rask, 85, of La Crescent, died on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, at her home.

She was born Oct. 27, 1927, in Black Hammer Township in Houston County to Melvin and Johanna (Bjergum) Olafson.

She received baptism on Nov. 27, 1927, and was confirmed into her faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Caledonia on Aug. 30, 1942. She attended school in the rural Caledonia area.

Liela married Raymond Rask on June 25, 1944, in Caledonia. Together they farmed in the Caledonia area until 1961. Liela worked as a cook in a Spring Grove café during this time and later at the factory predating Northern Engraving in Spring Grove.

She moved to Altura, Minn., where she enjoyed being a homemaker. In 1965, the couple moved to La Crescent, where Liela worked as a housekeeper for several years.

She enjoyed flower gardening, trips to visit her sister, baking for loved ones, and visiting and entertaining friends and family. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter, Judith (Robert) Schulze of La Crescent; a son, Ronald (Phyllis) Rask of West Salem, Wis.; six grandchildren, Randall Brummer, Steven Brummer, Melissa Schulze, Jeri Rask, Amber (Steve) Rasmussen and Gunner Rask; nine great-grandchildren, Stefen, Sheldon and Shanna Brummer, Devyn Johnson, Jordyn Hazelbower, Kaylee and Ryan Gilbertson, and Makenna and Cooper Rasmussen; a great-great-granddaughter, Elliot Brummer; a sister, Maxine Songer of La Crescent; a sister-in-law, Jackie Rask of Caledonia; and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond, on Sept. 6, 2013; as well as three sisters, Pearl Sires, Myrtle Onsgard and Belinda Peterson; three brothers, Mervin, Vernell and Norton Olafson; seven brothers-in-law, Phill Onsgard, Odin Peterson, Ted Kuecker, Calvin Sires, John Songer, and Orville and Donald Rask; and nine sisters-in-law, Mabel, Helen, and Odella Olafson, Alvina, Delores, and Elna Rask, Gladys Kuecker, and Birdella and Clairice Lien.

Funeral services were Oct. 16 at Wilmington Lutheran Church in rural Caledonia. The Rev. Neal Solomonson officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.
