Lloyd Owen Sanness, 71, died Sunday evening, Dec. 23, 2012, at his son's Iowa house.

Lloyd was born Jan. 8, 1941, to Ole and Olga (Myhre) Sanness. He was baptized and confirmed at Wilmington Lutheran Church in rural Spring Grove. He attended Spring Grove Public School.

Lloyd and Nancy Morken were married on July 18, 1959, and they spent 44 years together. In the fall of 2004, he married Janet (Bergsgaard) Gilbertson.

He farmed with his father from 1959 to 1972; was employed with Hubbard Pork Central, Mankato, from 1972 to 1995; and in 1995 built a 14-building hog nursery complex that he continued to operate. He was an avid collector of IH tractors - both large and small.

Lloyd was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Spring Grove.

Survivors include his three children and six grandchildren - Lorilyn Dehning and her daughter, Danielle (Jeremy Myhre); Scott (Ann) Sanness and their sons, Gregory and Benjamin; and Vicky (Dean) Dehning and their daughters, Kayla (Jason) Klug and Chelsey and Trisha Dehning; two great-grandchildren, Mariah Fretty and Kayden Klug; his wife, Janet, and her six children and 15 grandchildren - Elizabeth (Bill) Spalding and daughter, Nichole Sivigny; Galen (Cheryl) Gilbertson and children, Caitlin, Garrett and Erica; Jeffrey (Shannon) Gilbertson and children, Jonah and Jordan; Suzanne (Joe) Opat and children, Kacie and Timothy; Christopher (Carol) Gilbertson and children, David, Regina, Gabriel and Ricky; and Pamela (Tim) Stenstrom and children, Signey, Evan and Jacob.

He will also be fondly remembered by many in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Rick Dehning.

Lloyd enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. His usual "goodnight" was to say, "If anything happens to me, remember I have enjoyed my great life!"

He was reaching his third anniversary of reporting to the dialysis center three times a week, and while there, he met and made many new friends.

On Sunday morning, he was looking forward to being in church with his family members. The rest of the day was the family Christmas party, with every family member in attendance this year, hosted by Scott and Ann at their Iowa house.

He had a wonderful day and remarked that we should have the gathering there every year. It was during the goodbye hugs and kisses that Lloyd passed away.

Funeral services were Dec. 27 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. Pastor Zane Anderson officiated. Burial was in the Wilmington Church Cemetery, rural Spring Grove.

The Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove assisted the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.roblefuneralservice.com.
