Lorraine C. Peterson, 85, of Mabel died Thursday, March 21, 2013, at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel.

She was born May 7, 1927, in Cedar Township, Adams County, North Dakota, to Orlando and Tena (Dahle) Benson. She was baptized at the Richland Lutheran Church in Bucyrus, N.D.

She attended country schools in the Mabel area and was confirmed at the Scheie Lutheran Church. On Feb. 14, 1946, she married Jarvis S. Peterson at the Mabel Lutheran Parsonage. He died May 15, 2008.

She worked in the laundry room at the Green Lea Manor for 25 years before retiring in 1992. She was an active member of the Garness Trinity Lutheran Church and its WELCA, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She enjoyed her family and friends, handwork, flowers and baking.

Survivors include two daughters, Joan (Donald) Garness of Mabel and Linda (Craig) Pierce of Spring Grove; six grandchildren, Rhonda Schmelzer, Rachelle Henry, Travis Garness, Chad Pierce, Kris Pierce and Melissa Schroeder; 12 great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Caitlyn Hageman, Emma Schmelzer, Tanner, Sawyer and Parker Henry, Nolan and Livia Garness, Gavin and Samantha, Tryston and Mason Schroeder; great-great-grandson, Cannyn Henry; two sisters, Lois Honsey of Lanesboro and Mary (Curt) Bakke of Mabel; and two brothers, Jimmie and Larry, both of Mabel.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Arnold, Robert, Laverne and Donald; and an infant grandson.

Funeral services were March 25 at the Garness Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Mabel with the Rev. Mary Waudby officiating. Burial was in the Garness Cemetery.
