Matt Leon Korkowski, 23, of Prior Lake loved life, but his tragically ended much too soon on the evening of Saturday, March 22, 2014.

Matt was born Nov. 11, 1990, to Christopher and Cindy Korkowski at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina. When Matt was about 4-1/2 years old, the Korkowski family moved to Prior Lake.

As a child, he was very happy-go-lucky. Whether he was at a baseball game with his dad, attending open skate with friends or just hanging out with his family, he always enjoyed life.

In kindergarten, Matt developed an interest in football and hockey. That interest developed into a passion that continued into high school. He was on the D-line in hockey, and he was the center in football. Matt also spent a lot of time working out and lifting weights. He graduated from Prior Lake High School in 2009.

Matt attended Dakota County Vo-Tech and eventually got an apprenticeship at Phase Electric in Bloomington. He made a career for himself as an electrician with the company. He was a hard worker and a very valued member of the team.

Matt was very active and spent a lot of time on Prior Lake. He loved boating, water skiing and wakeboarding. He was known for being the first person on water skis each season.

He also enjoyed snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, hunting and riding his motorcycle.

Although Matt had many hobbies, his biggest passion in life was his friends. They were so important to him, and he was always a loyal friend.

Survivors include his parents, Chris and Cindy Korkowski; a brother, Luke (Stephanie) Korkowski; a niece, Leila; grandparents, Mary Peterson, Patricia and Ray Kirchmeyer and Leon and Shirley Korkowski; great-grandmother, Donna Barnes; godparents, Eric Peterson, Jeff Korkowski, and Nicole Korkowski; and other loving relatives and many close friends.

Matt was preceded in death by his grandfather, Allan Peterson; great-grandfather, Richard Barnes; and great-uncles, David Barnes and David Peterson.

A Celebration of Life was held March 29 at Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church, Prior Lake. The Rev. Mike Carlson presided.

The Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation, Prior Lake, assisted the family with arrangements.
