Margaret "Peggy" Geraldine Goodno, 90, of La Crosse, Wis., died in her home surrounded by her four children on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013.

She was born June 30, 1922, in Spring Grove to Edwin and Josephine (Sagdalen) Larson. She graduated from Spring Grove High School in 1940.

On Oct. 25, 1943, Peggy married Selmer "Sam" Goodno in New Orleans, La. Together they reared four children: Robert, Ronald, Jeanne and Shirley. She was also a second mother to Brad, Brenda, Bridget, Barb, Brian and Beth Nuckles whom she cared for and considered part of her family.

Peggy was active in helping others her entire life. As a longtime member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, La Crosse, she participated on the church council and in the Lydia and Rachael Circles as well as volunteering in the church office. She also enjoyed her time as both a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader.

The Thomas Rooney VFW Post 1530, Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52 and Moose Lodge 1920 Auxiliaries benefited from her membership.

Peggy exemplified the "salt of the earth" example. No one ever heard her utter a cross word about another human being, and she always maintained her kind, intelligent humor. Her unwavering commitment to God and her faith were evident in her daily life.

Survivors include her four "angels," Bob (Judy), Ron (Loretta), Jeanne (Steve) Curtis, and Shirley (Larry) Schmidt; eight grandchildren, Kim (Jeff Panke) Seiler, Troy (Sarah) Goodno, Dana (Mike) LaFleur, Ryan (Nicole) Goodno, David (Anna) Curtis, Stephanie (Patrick) Mulcahey, Jim (Kathy) Schmidt, and Jeff (Anne) Schmidt; 19 great-grandchildren; a brother, Orvin (Ada) Larson; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son and her husband.

Funeral services were Feb. 8 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, La Crosse. The Rev. Meredith McGrath officiated. Inurnment will be held in the Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum at Woodlawn Cemetery, La Crosse.
