Phyllis Clara Zibrowski, 84, of rural Hokah, Minn., died at her home, surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013.
She was born in La Crosse on March 26, 1929, to Aaron H. and Clara (Boehm) Zumach. She married Harold W. Zibrowski on May 27, 1948, at St. John's Catholic Church in Caledonia.
Early in her life, Phyllis worked for a short time at Rush Products in Rushford, Minn. She later packed apples at Old Hickory Orchards, a job she truly enjoyed. She also raised rabbits as a hobby which she would show at various fairs around the area. Most of Phyllis' time, however, was devoted to caring for her family and raising her nine children. There was always an open spot on her lap for her grandchildren. She was a wonderful homemaker who loved to bake and tend to her flower and vegetable gardens.
Phyllis is survived by Harold, her husband of 65 years; her children, Clara (Jeff) Post of Houston, Minn., Lucille (Norman) Lemke of Caledonia, Minn., James (Jeanne) Zibrowski of La Crescent, Edie (Clark) Bean of Crofton, Md., Joseph (Penny) Zibrowski of Leesburg, Va., Paul (Kathy) Zibrowski of Champlin, Minn., Andrew (Mandy) Zibrowski of Cook, Minn., Beth (James) Schueler of Peterson, Minn., and Peter (Sue) Zibrowski of Soldier's Grove, Wis.; 31 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren; and one great-great- granddaughter. She is further survived by a sister, Cecelia Horn of La Crescent; a brother, Gregory (Carol) Zumach of La Crescent; and nieces and nephews. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; a great-grandson, Dawson Skifton; a sister, Elaine Holliday; and a brother, Carl Fuller.
Phyllis will be remembered for her love of family and her positive outlook on life, especially during times of distress. She will be forever missed.
A Mass of Christian burial was held on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 11 a.m., at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Hokah. The Rev. Pratap Reddy Salibindla and the Rev. Paul J. Breza officiated.
