Robert "Bob" W. Helland, 81, of Janesville, Wis., died peacefully at Mercy Hospital, Janesville, on early Thursday morning, March 29, 2012, after a long illness.

Bob was born April 28, 1930, in Spring Grove, the son of Kenneth Wallace Campbell and Edith Marguerite (Bleakly) Helland.

He was a graduate of Janesville High School, class of 1948. He went on to study business at the University of Mexico in Mexico City, Mexico, where he married Caro Marquez. They later divorced, and Robert married Leovarda (Lopez) Curtis of Janesville in 1960.

Bob worked as a fireman for the Milwaukee Road Railway while attending high school, and he worked for Fisher Body/General Motors in Janesville for 40 years, retiring in 1995.

As a pipe fitter, he was a member of UAW Local 95. Robert also owned and operated his own local business, Helland Plumbing Contractors, as Master Plumber #608, until taking ill.

Survivors include his wife, Leovarda of Milton, Wis.; two daughters, Carolina (Gus) Marquez Figueroa of Mexico City, Mexico, and Linda (Steve) Helland-Burns of Roanoke, Ind.; two step sons, Frank (Peg) Curtis of Phoenix, Ariz., and Herbert Helland of Manitowish Waters, Wis.; a sister, Barbara (Lee) Smook of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; and 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews and very close friends he considered family.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, April 6, at All Faiths Funeral Chapel, 1618 E. Racine St., Janesville, with a video tribute at noon. Burial will be in Oakland, Calif., near his parents.

Memorials may be given to the charity of donor's choice. Brian Hansen Funeral Service, Janesville, assisted the family with arrangements.
