Ronald "Pilly" Verdell Johnson, 87, of Spring Grove, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at his home.

He was born June 1, 1925, in Spring Grove to Olaus T. and Marie (Swenson) Johnson. He attended Spring Grove Public School.

He served in the United States Army from 1950-1952 during the Korean War Era as a Military Police Officer in California.

Pilly married Lois Ristey on May 7, 1954, the couple lived in Mabel before moving to Spring Grove. She preceded him in death on March 28, 2009.

He worked at the Spring Grove Bottling Works before owning and operating Johnson Distribution. Pilly was also a bus driver for Spring Grove Public Schools.

Pilly was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, American Legion Post #249 and the Lions Club, all of Spring Grove.

Survivors include his stepson, Rick (Flo) Ristey of Plover, Wis.; his step-grandson, Mark (Shelly) Ristey of Columbus, Wis.; and step-great-grandson, Gage. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Luverne and Allen, and a sister, Fern Snyder.

Memorial services were Feb. 2 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. Pastor Zane Anderson officiated. Burial was in the Trinity Church Cemetery. Military rites were provided by American Legion Post #249 of Spring Grove.
